Care for Good Food and Farming

As a farmer’s daughter I am well acquainted with the Good elements of farming, but also the Bad and the Ugly. It is not an easy life, never has been. And sometimes, in pursuit of £s, less than ideal practices have gone on. Damage to the soil and wildlife, bad treatment of animals … BUT as we now have the benefit of hindsight, it is obvious that government policies and EU subsidy systems did us no favours in this regard.

Through engaging with such caring individuals as Bridget Whell, until recently chair of the NFU for Cornwall, and big environmentally responsible enterprises like Riviera Produce ‘down West’, I sense that there is a quiet but amazing revolution underway. If only, I say, the new government schemes like ELMS could shape up and provide support for so many ambitious new ways of farming.

My hope for this section is that we will get regular comments and maybe also samples, from farmers, fishermen, small holders, butchers and bakers … anyone who is involved or cares about food.

To facilitate this, from Wednesday 18th June I am most grateful that John is willing to give us a regular

Mid-Week Meet Up opportunity, with Munchies .. at Dog’s World, St Blazey

I won’t spell out anything more yet, but keep in touch because we will have some very interesting guest suppliers, chefs, etc. And then on the following week you will be invited to bring in and share whatever recipes you may have created. As an example, one week the featured food could be cheese, another vegetable oils, another how to bake vegan cakes etc. etc. We learn together, test and taste.

And a last word, bearing in mind the photos above – if you are interested in keeping weight off and having optimum health from food, try following the colour diet! You should see my fridge – mounds of the greens at the bottom, red/orange and gold, down to very small amounts of white. I will run a whole session about this one week soon.

I hope that the people at Flexitarian Diet won’t object to my borrowing their image, as I am finishing this with a link to their page! https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/flexitarian-diet-guide
