Creature Comforts

Food & Drink

Our refreshment provision is deliberately simple and modelled on historical miner’s ‘Crib Time’. Everyone is offered a hot or cold drink at the interval, within the entrance price. To receive a warm saffron bun as well, simply bring a £1 coin for the money box. Or for a bun and a lunch-time pasty, bring a £5 note.

Some indoor spaces and overnight accommodation may be available for booking by a small number of creative visitors, who are working on a project over a number of days or weeks. Our most recent example was in conjunction with Kneehigh Theatre, for making a film of The Neon Shadow. We used every indoor space day and night, to enable the vision for this exciting work to be realised. Find out more https://www.kneehigh.co.uk/shows/the-neon-shadow/

Similarly, overnight accommodation may be booked by visitors with a real passion for history or green energy, who would like to immerse themselves here for longer than a few hours. If you fall into that category please read on, then contact us to negotiate a package.

Cottage or Cowshed?

Double Room

Creative Space

The cottage ‘Woodland Suite’ can be set up as either super king arrangement or 2 separate single beds. There is a TV corner plus private dressing area and separate corridor, leading to your own bathroom and large hall shown below.

There is also a more basic and flexible self-catering option, in a second barn.

Green Energy

Shower Room

The shower room for Woodland Suite has a really spacious feel, with a number of quirky features, such as the arrow-slit windows and hand-crafted taps in bronze and copper. We’ve used traditional materials like these throughout the house.

Large hall with pellet boiler

In the hall or atrium of the cottage you’ll see an unusual feature of the Woodland Suite – the green energy biomass system. The ‘brain’ of the MCZ boiler, imported from Italy by UK company https://www.specflue.com, is programmed to kick in when required, as a top up of our solar PV system. So the boiler will not be busy on sunny days, but has to work more frequently in cold or wet, windy weather. However, the golden glow is really cosy then, so make yourself a hot drink and enjoy!
